"Gangster Squad" trailer pulled from theaters after "The Dark Knight Rises" shooting

(CBS News) Warner Bros. has pulled the trailer for its upcoming film "Gangster Squad" from theaters in wake of the mass shooting in Colorado early Friday during a screening of "The Dark Knight Rises."

The trailer, which had been playing before screenings of Christopher Nolan's third Batman film, includes a scene in which gunmen open fire through a movie screen with machine guns. (You can watch the trailer here.)

A source told the Los Angeles Times that the trailer had not played before the midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" in Aurora, Colo., where a gunman killed at least 12 people and wounded dozens of others.

Warner Bros. confirmed the trailer was pulled from theaters, according to TheWrap. A spokeswoman from the movie studio would not say whether the trailer would be re-cut to remove that footage.

"Gangster Squad," which stars Sean Penn, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling, is about the Los Angeles Police Department's fight to keep the mafia out of its city in the 1940s and '50s. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on Sept. 7.
