SCHAUMBURG, IL – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s decision to declare a national emergency over the southern border:
“President Trump’s decision to declare a national emergency is a desperate abuse of power born of his own failure to convince Congress or the American people to support his ineffective and unnecessary wall. Despite the President’s efforts to manufacture a crisis when none exists, we are unmoved. This is the first time a president failed to live up to his own catchphrase and declared it a national emergency.
Today, our country is in a state of emergency because the President of the United States couldn’t fulfill his promise to make Mexico pay for a wall the United States neither wants nor needs. Congress will fulfill its responsibility to confront this abuse of power and hold the President accountable for this decision.”
