Ukrainian fairs in New Hampshire raise money for humanitarian relief
It's been almost four months since Russia invaded Ukraine and people are continuing to escape the war like Katya Skrikpa, 13, who just came to New Hampshire.“It's very unusual still and she's still like getting used to it and it's still hard to comprehend that she's in America now,” said Skrikpa’s translator. Skrikpa is thousands of miles from Ukraine, but Sunday was a taste of home in Londonderry where a cultural fair celebrated food and sold clothes and souvenirs that were made in Ukraine. All items were donated, so every dollar made from sales goes directly to humanitarian relief.“It actually goes to real people, real soldiers and it's delivered pretty fast,” said Kateryna Hess, of Boston. On Saturday, Enfield also held an event to support people in Ukraine. Events to support Ukraine are becoming more frequent as organizers say it is crucial for Americans to continue to support Ukraine and Granite Staters are stepping up. Organizers of the Londonderry cultural fair said soldiers are asking for shoes. “By making money today at this fair, tomorrow we'll go to the bank, we'll wire the money to the people we know that are actually making the boots in Ukraine and they will deliver them to the guys on the frontlines,” said Kateryna Ridley, of Dover. As the war drags on, hope can be found in the voice of a teenager.“She just wants to say that Ukrainians are a very strong nation and of course we will win the war and for everybody to stay strong,” said Skrikpa’s translator.Even if you can't make it to one of these fairs, you can still donate and find events at Dobro New England's website.
