Although flu activity is declining in East Tennessee, UT Medical Center reported an additional flu death this week. This flu season, 11 people have died from the flu at the hospital. This is the first reported death since Feb. 9.

Across the state, eight children and a pregnant woman have died from the flu. When it comes to flu related deaths, only pregnant women and pediatric deaths are reported to the state and the CDC.

The percentage of patients visiting Tennessee Sentinel Provider clinics with symptoms of the flu this week was 6.2 percent. The usual baseline rate is 2.2 percent, according to CDC numbers.

Through Friday morning, there were 61 cases of Flu A and 16 of Flu B in February. Those numbers are compared to 200 cases of Flu A and 10 of Flu B in January.
