Hunter Tynan Davis, 'Best Is Yet to Come' [Exclusive Premiere]

Texas singer-songwriter Hunter Tynan Davis is giving The Boot's readers a first listen to his new song "Best Is Yet to Come." Press play below to hear the optimistic tune.

Davis tells The Boot that "perpetual optimism and self-actualization emanate out of every word, verse and chorus" of "Best Is Yet to Come" -- and, well, he's right. Over a light, acoustic guitar-driven melody, Davis sings in the chorus, "You know you've only just begun to show / You'd rather fight than run / Well, the war ain't won, and the battle ain't done / Got a long way to go / But the best is yet to come ..."

"Lyrically, the positive direction is intentional and motivating," Davis adds, "while the acoustic guitar riffs happily counterpoint the straightforward Americana / rock vibe provided by a steadfast rhythm section."

Guitarist Daniel Donato plays on "Best Is Yet to Come," which was produced by Ken Coomer of the alt-rock band Wilco. The song comes from Ferris Wheel, a new album that Davis plans to release in early 2019.

Born on the Gulf of Mexico, Davis grew up on his grandfather's shrimping boat, before his parents somewhat-settled in southeastern Texas. His father's side is athletic -- his grandpa, Walter Buddy Davis, played in the NBA and won the gold medal in men's high jump at the 1952 Olympics, while his father also played basketball -- and Davis played Division I college football before moving back to Texas to pursue a music degree. He moved to Nashville in 2011, to both attend Tennessee State University and further his music career.

“When I started songwriting, it was like I was taking over the family business,” explains Davis, whose dad wrote songs as well. “It was very seamless in its transition.”
