Gallantry awards for 4 from Satara Sainik School

Four former students of Sainik School, Satara have been included in the list of Gallantry awards announced by the ministry of defence on the eve of the 67th Republic Day.

Kolhapur: Four former students of Sainik School, Satara have been included in the list of Gallantry awards announced by the ministry of defence on the eve of the 67th Republic Day.
Lieutenant General Ravindra Vasantrao Thodge has been awarded Param Vishisht Seva Medal. He has already been conferred with Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal.
Thodge passed out from the Sainik School in 1973 and joined the Gorkha Regiment of the Indian Army. He is currently serving as master general of ordanance.
Lieutenant General Rajeev Vasant Kanitkar has been awarded Ati Vishisht Seva Medal. He was previously conferred with Sena Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal. Passed out in 1974, Kanitkar was commissioned into the Army in 1978 after completing courses in the NDA and the IMA. He is currently serving as quartermaster general, Armor Corps.
Colonel Giridhar Dhondiram Kole has been conferred with Sena Medal for Devotion to Duty.
Both Kole and Colonel Santosh Mahadik were classmates and passed out from Sainik School in 1994 after completing Std XII.
The Sainik School in Satara was set up on June 23, 1961 with the aim of preparing boys academically, mentally and physically for entry into the National Defence Academy and other defence academies.
