An Appomattox man succumbed to injuries suffered in a single-vehicle crash on Saturday.

Virginia State Police say around 12:57 a.m. on August 11, troopers were dispatched to a crash in Prince Edward County.

Furter investigation revealed that a 2001 Ford Mustang was traveling southbound on Route 15 near Route 133 when the driver of the vehicle lost control, causing the car to run off the right side of the road, strike a sign and several trees before overturning.

The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt was ejected from the vehicle. His condition is unknown at this time.

The only passenger of the vehicle, 24-year-old Alexander W. Lloyd, of Appomattox, Va. was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police say he died of those injuries later that morning. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

State Police believe speed was a factor in the crash and charges are pending.
