Man Shoveling Driveway Shot By Masked Suspect: Police Search

A man was shoveling his driveway in North Brookfield when he turned, saw a person bundled up, including a mask, and shot him with a rifle.

NORTH BROOKFIELD, MA—Police are searching for a suspect who shot a man while shoveling his driveway.

On Monday, Jan. 8, North Brookfield police got a call from Harrington Hospital that a 35-year-old had been transferred to UMass Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The incident had taken place on Friday, Jan. 5, around 10 p.m. when the Bigelow Street resident was outside shoveling his driveway. The victim turned and saw a person holding a rifle, and as he turned with the shovel, the rift discharged and hit his side.

The suspect was wearing what appeared to be several layers of clothing (as the outside temperatures were zero to -20 degrees) with a dark jacket at the top and a full-face knit hat. The suspect ran from the scene in an unknown direction. The North Brookfield Police are being assisted by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
