Christmas Tree Forest open at Art Museum of South Texas

The top three student groups with the best tree get a cash prize.

Corpus Christi (KIII News) — The ninth annual Christmas Tree Forest is now open at the Art Museum of South Texas.

It's a reading wonderland where each Christmas tree limb is like turning the page of a children's storybook.

The installation is a collaboration between the Junior League of Corpus Christi and H-E-B. The grocery store chain donated 30 trees for local student organizations to decorate based on their favorite children's book.

While the exhibit is open to the public until Dec. 12, a Family Fun Day will be held Dec. 8. You can stroll through the Christmas Tree Forest, enjoy live music performances, and take pictures with Santa, all for free.

Junior League Literacy Chair Lyndsey Shinn said the trees may showcase children's books, but the exhibit is meant for everyone.

"They like to see books that they recognize, but also adults do too, where you see Paddington and you see the Velveteen Rabbit and stuff that you grew up with, and see it through the eyes of who decorated the tree," Shinn said.

After the exhibit is over, local families will get a chance to take one of the Christmas trees and place it in their home for Christmas.
