Volleyball Falls in Four Sets to Dayton

Lee racks up double-double with 31 assists and 13 digs

WASHINGTON – GW volleyball pressed Dayton to the limit on Saturday evening at the Smith Center before eventually succumbing to the visitors in four sets.
 
GW (7-6, 1-1) saw its winning streak snapped at five games. Dayton (11-4, 2-0), the preseason No. 2 pick in the A-10, ran its win streak to six straight.

Key Stats
• Dayton held the statistical edge in attack percentage (.245-.107), kills (61-44), assists (60-40), and digs (71-64). GW outblocked Dayton 8.0-7.0 and racked up nine service aces to the Flyers' six.
• Junior Jaimeson Lee was everywhere for GW, dishing out 31 assists, tallying 13 digs, and adding four block assists. She now has 10 double-doubles in 13 matches
• Junior Skylar Iott registered her eighth double-double of the year with team highs in kills (15) and digs (14). She also had three aces.
• Senior Kelsey Clark added 11 kills and sophomore Callie Fauntleroy hit a team-best .333 (6k-1e-15a).
• The match featured at least nine ties in every set and 38 overall. There were also 17 lead changes.
 
How it Happened
Set 1: Dayton 28, GW 26
• The opening set saw 11 ties and four lead changes as GW staved off three set points to even things at 26. However, the Flyers finished the set with consecutive points to claim the first set.
• Fauntleroy was effective in her time on the floor, finishing with three kills in four attempts.

Set 2: GW 26, Dayton 24
• The Colonials dug out of an early six-point hole (9-3), eventually tying the set at 17. Things would remain close until 24-24 when consecutive errors handed GW the set.
• Clark racked up nearly half of her match total with five kills as GW evened the match.

Set 3: Dayton 25, GW 22
• The nip-and-tuck nature of the match continued, but Dayton ultimately was able to fend off the Colonials with a strong .341 attack percentage (17k-3e-41a) in the set.
• GW had its best attacking set of the match, hitting .171 (12k-5e-41a) with Iott recording four of the kills.
 
Set 4: Dayton 25, GW 20
• Dayton continued its effective attack, hitting a blistering .361 (17k-4e-36a) to finish off the match.
• The Colonials closed to within one at 18-17, but Dayton ran off seven of the final 10 points to earn the victory.
