INDIGENOUS AUTHOR AND ACTIVIST WINONA LADUKE
Award-winning Indigenous author, economist, environmentalist and activist Winona LaDuke—who twice ran for Vice President on the Green Party ticket—will visit Anchorage Nov. 8–9 for a public speaking tour, presented by the UAA/APU Books of the Year program and Alaska Airlines. The first event Leading from the Heart: Activism, Identity and Community Empowerment begins at 11:30am at the UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 307. An opening reception at Out North to view photography projects by Brian Adams, Amy Bell & Matt Waliszek. The exhibition highlights youth changemakers in Atmautluak, Cordova, Juneau, Kiana, Nome, and St. Michael. Learn more about the impacts of these youth-led projects that focused on finding solutions to Alaska’s leading public crises – violence and alcohol and support our youth as they claim their Space to Lead. Welcome to Our Town, the award-winning play that has drawn in audiences for eighty years. Our Town embraces the layers it takes to build the communities that sustain us. Set in every small town of your imagination and memory, Thornton Wilder’s spare classic captures the depth of humanity through careful attention to everyday happenings—but as performed by Perseverance Theatre’s dynamic Alaskan cast, led by Irene Bedard (Inupiaq/Yupik/Métis Cree) as the Stage Manager, this production will be anything but ordinary. UAA DANCE STUDENT SHOWCASE
Join the UAA dancers for the UAA Dance Student Showcase, where diversity in choreographic styles and movement ideas reign. Alaska Trails is excited to present the 9th installment of the Trail Tales storytelling series. In the spirit of Arctic Entries, storytellers will share seven-minute stories about their trail experiences, adventures and life in general. CAMP STOVE COOKOFF CHALLENGE

LUCKY CHOPS
Founded by former students of LaGuardia High (the “Fame” school), NYC band Lucky Chops roars and soars with infectious energy. After a tourist serendipitously posted a video of their subway busking online in 2015, the ragtag crew rocketed to popularity, gaining over 100 million views and a worldwide fan base seemingly overnight. Now selling out shows from the Bay Area to Berlin, these up-and-comers are unleashing their high-energy brassy funk on the world. OF RELATION; A PROGRESSIVE PERFORMANCE
A three part, progressively building, performance series addressing the concept of relationship. First presenting the relationship to the self. Second, familial (specifically father daughter, brother sister), and third, romantic. Using repetitive movement, wearable art, sculptural installation, and sound, viewers are taken through an emotional and physical narrative. The performance will be about an hour. PIANIST CARL CRANMER IN CONCERT
Carl Cranmer made his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the age of nine. Since then, in addition to solo recitals in Europe, Asia, and North America, he has performed in concert with the Royal Philharmonic of England, the Gulbenkian Orquesta of Portugal, the Juilliard Orchestra and several other orchestras on the Eastern Seaboard. In addition to his study in conservatories of music in the United States, he also studied at the Sommerakademie at the Mozarteum, in Salzburg, Austria under full scholarship, where he was under the tutelage of distinguished teachers Karlheinz Kammerling, Jacob Lateiner, and Hans Graf. BIG FAT BUDDHA AT LA POTATO
Like to eat and enjoy craft beer and live music? Then check out Big Fat Buddha at Anchorage’s newest hotspot. First, some history, everybody is a world traveler and dreams of packing it up and living in McCarthy, AK (or Girdwood). Along those lines you know of and have eaten at The Potato in McCarthy, AK. Humble beginnings as food truck, a' la Spudnik. So, what's a spudnik? Think biscuits and gravy, but fries instead of biscuits. Really these folks take their potatoes serious! I like the Rosemary Garlic fries myself. So, the second part of this unholy trinity is the Former Fly by Night Club, God the place just won't die. Yes, it's being reincarnated as LA Potato! ANCHORAGE SYMPHONY ECHOES
In celebration of his 20th season as ASO Music Director, the orchestra will perform Randall Craig Fleischer’s Echoes. A piece he calls “one of the highlights of my tenure (and my life).” This multicultural piece features indigenous music and dances from Alaska, Hawaii, and Massachusetts. In this quick “Randy tour” of his ASO tenure, they will also showcase his love of Russian music and the connection to his mentor Mstislav Rostropovich. The concert also includes revisiting two works he conducted on his audition concert 20 years earlier in November 1998. Immersive art interventions meet wild exhibits in this evening event celebrating Alaska’s wilderness. Headlined by national touring act, The Cave Singers, this party also features music by Medium Build, local bands, DJs, and Northern hip-hop artists. Galleries and museum lawn are activated with music, interactive activities and artists. Northern cuisines, from reindeer sausage to poke bowls available for purchase from local food trucks.
