Home health aide suspected in $10,000 jewelry theft: Pepper Pike Police Blotter

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio -- Grand theft, SOM Center Road: Police were close to making an arrest this week in the theft of $10,000 worth of jewelry from a residence. The theft was reported April 21, and a home health aide was suspected.

When the victim pressed the aide about the missing pieces, the suspect initially agreed by text message to return them, police said.

Fraud (checks or negotiable instruments), Shaker Boulevard: Summit County sheriff's deputies filed an April 15 report with local police involving a $1,500 business check that was cashed in Pepper Pike last December.

The check was made out to a Summit County company for services rendered, but was apparently altered so that the suspect could cash it personally.

Attempted theft from auto, Edgedale Road: A family reported at 6 a.m. April 19 that at least two cars had been entered overnight after the owners noticed the doors were not completely shut. Nothing appeared to have been taken.

Possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia; Chagrin Boulevard: Police were called on April 20 to the New Directions residential drug treatment facility for a report of a client, 17, who had walked off and returned of her own volition. Staff detected an odor of suspected marijuana and police seized a small amount of weed, a pipe and a lighter.

Driving under suspension, warrant; Cedar and Brainard roads: A Cleveland woman was stopped April 18 for driving on a suspended license and found to have an active warrant from Maple Heights, where police were unable to pick her up. She was advised about the warrant, cited and released.
