Local sports briefs for Oct. 15

Rockwood 11, JCS 0

ROCKWOOD — The Rockwood boys varsity soccer team defeated Johnstown Christian, 11-0 on Parents Day, Saturday.

Nolan Croushore netted a hat trick for the Rockets. Rhett Pletcher, Justin Shaffer, Derek Meyers, Andrew Weaver, Hunter Sanner, Logan Bowman, Gabe Latuch and Gavin Stimmel each scored a goal.

Assists were credited to Latuch and Shaffer with two each. Stimmel, Croushore, Weaver and Eli Foy each had an assist. Garrett Weaver recorded his 12th shutout of the season.

Rockwood is now 13-1 this season.

Rockwood 10, JCS 0

ROCKWOOD — Rockwood shut out Johnstown Christian, 10-0 on Parents Day, Saturday.

Kalie Spano tallied a hat trick for the Lady Rockets. Haley Johnson netted two goals.

Greta Mort, Rebecca Johnson, Maggie Hay, who recorded her first varsity goal, Maddie Gaskin and Kaitlyn Wheatley each found the back of the net.

Assists were credited to Mort with five, Haley Johnson with two, Abbey King and Briana Sanner.

Rockwood is 10-1 this season.

Windber 10, United 0

WINDBER — The Windber boys varsity soccer team defeated United, 10-0, Saturday.

Nick Vasas had three goals and an assist for the Ramblers. Kobe Charney, Logan Constantino, Blake Dowdell, Nico Flori, Zach Geiser and Jake Steinbeck each had a goal.

Keith Charney and Justin Birkhimer each had two assists.

Constantino, Andrew Floyd and Brandan Marhefka each were credited with an assist.

Brady Smith recorded the shutout in net.

Somerset 1, CR 0

NEW PARIS — Lilly Means’ second half goal lifted Somerset past Chestnut Ridge, 1-0 in girls varsity soccer Saturday. Rylee Pucci picked up the helper on the goal.

Courtney Vought made two saves and pitched a shutout in net. The Lady Golden Eagles upped their record to 12-2.

Somerset won the junior varsity game 2-0.

Haley Vought netted two goals. Sydney Flick and Marlee Richards each had a goal and an assist. McKenna Shaffer, Morgan Dickey, Anna Hersh and Abigail Oliver each scored a goal.

Sara Basala and Emma Mumau shared the shutout in net.

District 5 Class A high school football rankings as of Oct. 14:

1. Shade 8-0 record, 7.375 rating; 2. Tussey Mountain 7-1, 6.500; 3. Conemaugh Township 6-2, 5.625; 4. Windber 5-3, 4.625; 5. Northern Bedford 2-6, 1.750.

District 5 Class AA high school football rankings as of Oct. 14:

Rockwood 12, JCS 0

ROCKWOOD — Rockwood defeated Johnstown Christian, 12-0 in boys junior high soccer Saturday.

Will Latuch scored four goals and dished out five assists. He finished the season with 40 goals.

Zeke Foy tallied two goals. Luke Latuch, Matthew Mitchell and Cole Hosteter each had a goal.

Josiah Rock had a goal and three assists. Logan Baker recorded a goal and two assists while John Mowry added a goal and an assist. Andrew Farkosh was credited with an assist. Rockwood finished the season 12-2-2 record.

Somerset 10, Plum 0

The Somerset Sharpshooters U14 PA West boys had 10 different goal scorers in a 10-0 win against Plum on Sunday. The win upped their record to 5-0 this season.

Toby Walker, Julien Foucault, Logan Seslow, Tanner Wassilchalk, Brandon Jack, Ian Shoff, Liam Egal, Ben Witt, Micah Flower, and Cole Johnson all scored one goal. Johnson had three assists while Egal, Wassilchalk, Jack, Witt, Foucault, Cayden Willoughby, Shawn Shaffer and Connor Montgomery all had one assist a piece.

Kahne Foltz, Wassilchalk, Montgomery, Seslow, Walker, Johnson, and Jack shared time in goal recording the shutout.
