NOTTOWAY COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — No one was injured in a crash involving a school bus in Nottoway County Friday morning.

According to state police, a Kenston Forest School bus carrying 20 children ranging from ages seven to 15 was traveling eastbound on Hungarytown Road, and a 1993 Peterbuilt tractor without a trailer, driven by Geoffrey Edwards, 41, of Keysville, Va., was traveling westbound just before 8 a.m.

As the school bus, driven by Mary Gordon, 58, of Burkeville, Va., exited a curve into a straight away, both vehicles were partially over on the opposite lane of travel, state police said. To avoid a collision, both drivers veered to the right off road with the tractor striking a ditchline and the school bus striking a tree on the passenger side.

Fire and EMS personnel evaluated everyone on the scene and there were no injuries reported.

Edwards was charged with reckless driving; failure to maintain control, and driving suspended. Gordon was charged with failure to drive right of highway; failure to maintain control.

The crash remains under investigation.
