Rams waive CB Steve Williams, promote DB Isaiah Johnson from practice squad

Just over two weeks after the Los Angeles Rams chose to sign former San Diego Chargers cornerback Steve Williams, it seems that they’ve decided to head in another direction. Williams was waived by the Chargers during their final roster cuts, and the former fifth-round draft pick from 2013 was hoping to carve out a role in Los Angeles.

According to Myles Simmons of the team’s official website, the Rams chose to waive Williams, while promoting another defensive back.

Johnson spent the 2015 season with the Detroit Lions, playing in six games and totaling just one tackle. He’s in his second season out of Georgia Tech, where he had an impressive collegiate career.

Johnson totaled 283 combined tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, nine passes defensed, six interceptions, six fumble recoveries, three sacks and three forced fumbles. The former Yellow Jacket made the move from cornerback to safety during his senior year, but it’s unknown what type of role he could have with the Rams in 2016.
