Community concert featuring the Front Porch Pickers, 6 p.m., Mohr Auditorium, Scribner. Everyone is invited to the concert sponsored by the Faith Ambassadors Parish of Hooper, Uehling and Scribner. There also will be a silent auction and children’s activities, and food plus a wine tasting for those over age 21.

Second Annual Marine Corps League Bass Tournament, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Lake Wanahoo, Wahoo. Registration starts at 6 a.m. and the shotgun start is at 7 a.m. A parks permit and fishing license are required. Boats are welcome. The entry fee is $10 for adults and free for kids 16 and under (kids must be accompanied by an adult). Proceeds of the tournament, sponsored by the Fremont Area Marine Corps League, will go to Marines and FMF Corpsman and families in need.
John G. Neihardt Foundation’s 37th Annual Spring Conference, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., John G. Neihardt State Historic Site, 306 W. Elm St., Bancroft. The theme is “Wounded Knee 1890: Aftermath of a People’s Dream.” The one-day conference will feature presentations by noted educators, historians and authors for discussion of the tragedy of Wounded Knee, the role of the Ghost Dance Movement in what led to the massacre, and the aftermath – its continuing role in Native history into the current time. The conference fee is $25 for adults and $10 for students. Lunch is an additional $10.
TREEmendous Arbor Day Celebration, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Lauritzen Gardens, Omaha. There will be a variety of tree-themed educational activities designed for families to learn about a variety of tree topics. The first 100 households will receive a free tree seedling. This event is included with regular garden admission and is free for garden members. Children who dress like a tree will get in free. In case of rain, all activities will be moved indoors.
Nebraska Statewide Arboretum’s Spring Affair, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Lancaster Event Center, Lincoln. The event features over 700 varieties of plants with talks, concessions and vendors under the same roof. Perennials, herbs, native plants, succulents, annuals and vines are selected for regional suitability, uniqueness and demand, and provided by Bluebird Nursery Inc. Trees and shrubs are from the arboretum. Admission is free.

It will feature equestrian jousting and headliner acts from around the Midwest, and an artisan’s merchant village. Admission will be $12 for adults and $5 for kids from ages 5 to 15. Two-day passes will be available at the gate.
