Music at your doorstep

 Hey music lovers ... there’s no need to cross the Betsy Ross! On Sat Sep 24, folks will be able to rock out right here in Collingswood. The second annual Before the Bridge Music Festival will combine some of South Jersey’s hottest local sounds with the music of artists from New York and Virginia. The goal of the free festival is to bring a full day of independent, grassroots music to music fans in the ’burbs. Don’t miss performances by artists such as Wakey! Wakey!, Walter Schreifels, If’n, Lowry, Roadside Graves, Gunfight!, Sara O’Brien, Goodnight Lights, and Steve Waitt. Collingswood’s Grooveground (647 Haddon Ave) and Plant Life Music are teaming up to create an event that will not only expose upand-coming musicians, but also bring renowned regional artists to the borough. This year Grooveground and Plant Life are joining forces with Community Rocks, a local non-profit established to connect, strengthen, and educate community through arts and wellnesscentered programs. Community Rocks promotes self-expression, cross-cultural education and environmental awareness (communityrocks.org). The festival will run from 12n to 9pm. Music will be the first order of business. Booths set up by vendors and non-profits organizations will add another dimension to the festivities. Food and beverages will be made available to the hungry masses. For those who are not ready to call it a night after the festival, an afterparty will be held at Grooveground from 9 to 11pm. Before the Bridge will take place at the corner of Haddon and Woodlawn Aves. This year’s even is expected to be twice the size of the festival held last fall. For details and a performance schedule, visit beforethebridge.com. In the event of rain, the festival will be held on Sun Sep 25.
