‘Spooky Pooch Parade’ haunts Lakewood this weekend

Halloween has gone to the dogs!

LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- Hundreds of pups in costumes will take over Kauffman Park on Saturday for Lakewood’s 11th annual Spooky Pooch Parade from 12:30-3:30 p.m.

“A favorite Halloween tradition for Northeast Ohio dog lovers and their families, this community festival represents one of the only events of its kind in the region, providing a tail-wagging good time for canine and human guests alike,” according to the event’s site.

The parade itself takes place at 2 p.m. along Detroit Avenue. Prizes will be passed out to dogs in a variety of categories at 3:15 p.m., including best pooch and child, best pooch and adult, spookiest pooch and best in show.

Event organizers say last year’s event had more than 2,500 people and 350 dogs.

Although admission for humans is free, there is a charge for your dog to participate. Pre-registration for the parade is $10 per dog. Day-of registration is $15 per dog.

Proceeds benefit LakewoodAlive, which is described as a “nonprofit community development organization striving to foster and sustain vibrant neighborhoods.”
