High school track and field: Ingleside boys, Rockport-Fulton girls capture titles

PORT LAVACA — Ingleside's Bobby Gonzales tied for high point boys athlete of the District 26-4A meet, helping the Mustangs to the district crown at Sandcrab Stadium.

The Mustangs' sprinter won the 200 meter dash (22.42 seconds) and finished second in the 100 (10.88) along with helping Ingleside win the boys 400 relay with a time of 43.94 seconds.

Ingleside finished with 161 points to hold off Rockport-Fulton's 143 points. The Pirates took home the 1,600-meter relay, but Ingleside finished second to keep Rockport-Fulton from overtaking them.

The Mustangs also got district championship performances in the 110 hurdles (Aiden Chalk) and the 800 (Noah Ramirez).

The same two schools battled for the girls title, with Rockport-Fulton taking home the district crown with 143 points.

Ingleside tallied 111.

The Ingleside boys track team captured the District 26-4A team title in Port Lavaca on Thursday, April 8, 2021.

The Rockport-Fulton girls had two individual champions — Kaylee Howell in the high jump and Mikaela Dominguez in the pole vault, but finished on the podium in 11 other events, including all three relays.

Beeville's Jalen Spicer and Rockport-Fulton's George Marable joined Gonzales in the tie for high point boys athlete, earning 23 points at the meet. 

Trojans senior Allie Estrada earned high point honors for the girls with 41 points after winning the long jump, triple jump, 300 hurdles and finishing second in the 100 hurdles and third as part of the Beeville girls 400 relay.

The top four finishers in each event advance to the District 25-4A/26-4A meet April 14 in Rockport-Fulton.
