New Orleans Saints minicamp in review

At this same time last week, New Orleans Saints legends Reggie Bush and Marques Colston from the NFL draft class of 2006 were right here on the Gulf Coast, celebrating the third annual Hall of Fame weekend in Biloxi.

Now as the Black and Gold wrap up mandatory minicamp, there appears to be a new class ready to leave a similar legacy in New Orleans.

At least that’s the comparison being made by Head Coach Sean Payton who received major contributions in Super Bowl 44 from the likes of Bush and Colston as well as second-round pick Roman Harper, fourth-rounder Jahri Evans, and seventh-round selections Zach Strief.

Now it’s the new wave of first-rounders Marshon Lattimore and Ryan Ramczyk, second-rounder Marcus Williams as well as third-rounder Alvin Kamara and Alex Anzalone, all stepping up to make an immediate impact on both sides of the ball for Who Dat Nation. “Their similarity, first off, would be the importance of those classes. The importance of the ’06 class relative to what we were able to accomplish in the years to follow a really good draft like that and I think that same similarity exists in the ’17 draft class. The significance of when that class was drafted, I’m talking about ’17 now, in getting us over the hump I think that would be the clear comparison for me.”

The Saints wrapped up minicamp yesterday and will get back after it in six weeks for the start of training camp.
