A Global “Mash-Up” of Handel’s Messiah from PBS NewsHour Features Cathedral Concert from Victoria

PBS NewsHour is featuring the annual Cathedral Concert filmed from Victoria’s “Cathedral of the Plains” in a musical piece circulating the internet now.

 “Hallelujah! A Global Mash-up of Handel’s ‘Messiah’” stars choirs and musicians from around the world including the PBS NewsHour staff.  Footage from three PBS member stations is also featured, including the Cathedral Concert 2010 provided by Smoky Hills Public Television.

The piece can be viewed on the internet at www.smokyhillstv.org or on the video sharing site, (www.youtube.com) where as of December 27th nearly 5,800 people have viewed it.  The musical montage is also featured on the NewsHour website at www.pbs.org/newshour

The annual Cathedral Concert performed from St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria is sponsored by the music department at Fort Hays State University.  This year’s concert featured the Fort Hays Singers Concert Choir with St. Fidelis Choir, Smoky Hill Chorale, Hays Symphony Orchestra, Hays High School Chamber Singers and the Kennedy/Felten Middle Schools Singing Irish-Falcons.
