The 2018 class of inductees for the Beckley Flying Eagles Track and Field Hall of Fame will be introduced during today’s Beckley Relays at Woodrow Wilson High.

The meet will begin with field events at 9:30 a.m. Following is a look at the new class, as provided by Woodrow Wilson boys head coach Steve Kidd:

l Meghan Holcomb Walker was a member of the 2004 4x100- and 4x200-meter state champion relay teams. She was a member of the 2010 Top 10 national cheerleading team at Concord University. She graduated with a degree in chemistry and later pursued a degree in dentistry. She resides in Beckley with her husband, Drew.

l Shay Law Steele was a member of the 2004 4x100- and 4x200-meter state champion relay teams. Shay also finished fourth in the 200-meters at the state meet. She is a graduate of West Virginia State University and Concord University Graduate School. She is currently a school attendance director and social worker in Charleston, where she resides with her husband, Ricky, and son, Tre.

l Terryn Webb is the third member of the 2004 4x100- and 4x200-meter state champion relay teams. She also finished second in the 100-meters and was voted top female athlete at Woodrow Wilson in 2004. She was a member of the track team at Marshall University from 2004 to 2008. She currently resides in Portsmouth, Va. with her children. She works as a counselor. 

l Sarah McKinney is the fourth member of the 2004 4x100- and 4x200-meter state champion relay units.

l Charles “Chick” Munson III was a member of the track and football teams from 1960 to 1963. In 1963, he was voted as co-captain of the track team. In 1963 and 1964, he attended Greenbrier Military School. He went on to college at West Virginia Wesleyan, from which he graduated in 1968 with a degree in health, physical education and English. From 1968 to 1985, he coached football and track and also served as athletic director. He is also a member of the football hall of fame. Coach Munson resides in Shady Spring with his wife, Janet. They will be married 52 years this coming June. He has three daughters, three granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.

l Dallas Bandy was a member of the fraternity that Beckley track is known for, the hurdlers. He participated in the 180-yard low hurdles, the high hurdles and the shuttle hurdle relay team that competed for state championship in each of his seasons. Dallas also took part in the field events as a discus thrower. He resides in Beckley with his wife, Joyce. He has two sons and works in the office of the mayor.

l Chris Braxton was a member of the 1981 team and the 1982 state championship team. In 1981, Chris was part of the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay teams that finished first in the state. He was also a member of the 4x200 quartet that was runners-up. He was the Region 3 champion in the 400-meter run and finished in the top four at the state meet. In 1982, Braxton was a member of the 4x100 and 4x200 teams that set state records and a member of the 4x400-meter team that also claimed a championship. He was also runner-up in the 400-meter run. Chris resides in Cleveland, Ohio and will be accompanied by his son, Chase.

l Carl “Satch” Sanders was a member of the 440-yard, 880-yard and shuttle hurdle teams, but he was best known as a high jumper for the Flying Eagles. He resides in Horsehead, N.Y. with his wife, Donna. He has three children and 10 grandchildren.

l Arthur Lawson moved to Beckley for his senior year from Wichita Falls, Tex. after his father retired from the military. In the state meet, he finished second in the 100-yard run, and was a member of the 440 and 880 relay teams, which both set school and state records. While doing missionary work in Liberia as a Jehovah’s Witness, Arthur, his roommate and several Liberian tribesmen were kidnapped and killed during a civil unrest. Arthur’s mother, Carrie, cannot attend Saturday, but his brothers, Walter and Tony, track HOF members, plan to be present.

l William “Tony” Chappell was a member of the 1982, 1983 and 1984 state championship teams. He was a member of the 400-, 800- and 1600-meter relay teams and also ran the 200 and 400 dashes or whatever Coach Culicerto told him to run. In 1984, his 400 and 800 relay teams were state champions. Chappell is also a member of the football hall of fame. Tony played football at West Virginia Tech before moving on to Laurel, Md., where he resides today. He has one daughter and two grandchildren.
