Sleepy Hollow may have been cancelled after four seasons earlier this year, but at least we can get a sense of what would have happened had the show stuck around for another season, thanks to one of the show's stars.

Janina Gavankar played Homeland Security Agent Diana Thomas – Ichabod Crane's (Tom Mison) new partner following the death of Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) – in the show's final season, and while Janina says that she thinks the series did end "on a great note, story-wise", that doesn't mean there weren't more stories to tell.

"Crane is off in DC. He's really found his footing," she told TVLine. "Jenny and he have found a new home there. He and Diana are going off strong, taking down a kraken, of all things!"

According to Janina, the kraken would have played a big role at the beginning of a fifth season, had it happened – "How do we handle the sirens and the kraken, all water-worldly creatures?" – but one of the biggest plot points would have involved Diana's daughter, who appeared as both the younger Molly (Oona Yaffe) and as the time-travelling older incarnation of her from the future, Lara (Seychelle Gabriel).

"Nobody told me the answer, but they were deciding whether or not Lara — older Molly — was going to be part of the cast and all of the stories," she continued, adding that she would have liked to see how the relationship between the three of them played out.

"I wanted to know what happened to my baby daddy? Did we call to tell him, 'It's OK, we know that you're not a werewolf?'"

The actress also praised Sleepy Hollow for its commitment to portraying "complicated, strong female characters", adding that the Fox show never shied away from having female leads.

"There are so many shows where there's only one female series regular, and that show, there were so many," she added. "Everywhere you looked, there was some badass girl running around, taking down monsters. I loved that about that show and I hope many, many more follow suit."

Sleepy Hollow aired on FOX in the US. It was cancelled earlier this year after a steady drop in ratings.
