Summer has become the prime time for superhero movies and comic book adaptations. We’ve already seen what Marvel had to offer with ‘Iron Man 3’ and we’re about to find out if ‘Man of Steel’ can actually bring it this weekend, but later this summer, Dark Horse Comics is throwing their hat in the ring to see if they can topple the dominating titans when Universal releases their adaptation of the 1999 mini-series from ‘Hawaii 5-0’ and ‘Demolition Man’ scribe Peter M. Lenkov called ‘R.I.P.D.’.

Starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges, the film follows recently deceased detective Nick Cruz as he joins the Rest In Peace Department, a division of dead lawmen who are tasked with protecting and serving the living from the evil spirits who refuse to crossover into the afterlife.

Previously, a domestic trailer was released to show off the awesome ‘Men In Black’ meets ‘Wild Wild West’ action and comedy, but thanks to Comic Book Movie, you can check out the new international trailer, which has a bit of new footage, including the gruesome moment when Reynolds’ character bites the dust:

While this isn’t the comic book movie that we’d all like to see Ryan Reynolds in next (:cough: Deadpool :cough:), he seems to play really well with the veteran Bridges and Mary Louise Parker, who came into prominence on the Showtime dramedy ‘Weeds’. Based on the trailers, this whole movie puts a new spin on the classic buddy cop formula and looks like it could be a lot of fun, so I’m looking forward to checking it out. But what do you think? Let us know your thoughts on the Rest In Peace Department in the comments below.

‘R.I.P.D.’ starring Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Bacon, James Hong, Marisa Miller, Mary-Louise Parker, and Stephanie Szostak rises from the grave on July 19, 2013.
