A fourth consecutive win to open the 2018 season meant another two steps up this week in the statewide rankings of Florida high school football teams for Rockledge.

The Raiders, who moved from eighth to No. 6 last week, opened District 14-5A play on Friday with a 35-0 win over previously unbeaten Space Coast and kept rising, this time to No. 4. The Associated Press compiles weekly polls based on the votes of Florida sports writers.

Plantation American Heritage remained No. 1 in 5A voting, with 12 of 14 first-place votes.

In Class 4A, Cocoa held on to No. 3 despite a bye week. The Tigers were tied with Miami Booker T. Washington last week, but the Tornadoes lost for the second time this season. Fort Lauderdale University School was again the top recipient of votes in 4A, including all 13 first-place votes.

A third Brevard County team, Heritage, drew notice in this week's voting, receiving one vote in the Class 6A poll. Miami Carol City was the unanimous No. 1 team in the 6A rankings.

Miami Southridge, the No. 10 team in Class 8A, will play the Raiders at McLarty Stadium on Friday. It will be the second meeting of ranked teams on that field. Rockledge defeated then-No. 7 Jacksonville Bolles on Sept. 7 by a 27-24 score.

Titusville will visit Tallahassee this week to face the team one spot in front of the Raiders, Tallahassee Godby.

Class 8A No. 1 Deerfield Beach was another unanimous pick for the top spot in its class, as was Madison County in 1A. The other No. 1 teams are St. Thomas Aquinas in 7A, Chaminade-Madonna in 3A and Victory Christian in 2A.
