Amazon Prime Movies to watch in May 2019

The availability of 24 x 7 effortless entertainment without having to move an inch from your bed is a legit reason why we can't do without OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hotstar; and these streaming platforms return the favour by adding diverse content on regular basis. Amazon Prime for instance, has added quite a few movies to its platform in the recent past that you can watch during this weekend. 1. Kesari

Based on the Battle of Saragarhi of 1897, Kesari stars Akshay Kumar in the lead role of Havildar Ishar Singh. The story of 21 incredibly brave soldiers fighting against thousands of Afghan tribesmen while protecting the military outpost at Saragarhi in the Khyber Pass manages to evoke a strong sense of nationalism.

2. Photograph

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is known for his intense roles and serious performances. In this coming of age romantic drama, you'll get to see a softer side of the actor, who is paired against Sanya Malhotra. The plot centres around a street photographer who tries to convince a young woman to pose as his fiancee, to avoid constant marriage pressure from his grandmother.

3. Majili

An aspiring cricketer, Poorna (Naga Chaitanya) gives up his dreams and becomes an alcoholic after his love story with Anshu (Divyansha Kaushik) goes astray. Poorna then marries Sravani (Samantha Akkineni), who is secretly in love with him, under parental pressure. He maintains his distance from her post marriage also but relies on Sravani to sponsor him and his alcohol addiction. On a trip for selecting some cricket players, Poorna meets Meera, Anshu and her husband’s daughter, but learns from her that her parents have passed away. Poorna now changes his focus on training Meera and brings her back to Vizag. While training, Sravani and Poorna decide to adopt Meera, but the girl puts a condition that the couple must act like a husband and wife. Poorna then realises of Sravani’s affection for him and falls for her as well.

4. Crazy Rich Asians

Crazy Rich Asians is a larger-than-life romantic comedy film that released in 2018 and received stellar reviews from all across the globe. The film is based on Singaporean American novelist, Kevin Kwan’s bestselling novel of the same name. The movie’s plot revolves around Rachel Chu, a New York native and her boyfriend Nicholas "Nick" Young. After dating for almost a year, Nick invites Rachel to attend his best friend’s wedding in Singapore, where his family also resides. A naïve Rachel says yes to Nick’s invitation but doesn’t realise that unlike her, Nick belongs to a crazy rich family that would never approve of her. She, however, manages to convince them otherwise and gets her happily ever after. Expect stunning visual images and a beautiful rendition of the song, Can't Help Falling in Love.

5. Suspiria

Inspired by the 1977 Italian film named the same, Suspiria is a horror movie based in a prestigious dance academy in West Berlin. The movie kicks off when a young American woman comes to the school to study dance, just as another student disappears after revealing an appalling truth to the in-house psychiatrist. If you're in the mood to watch a jump scare movie, move on. But if you'd like to spend time on a horror movie with layered characters, this is the one.

6. The Upside

Watch what happens when a paralysed billionaire (Bryan Cranston) hires a paroled convict (Kevin Hart) to take care of him in this comedy-drama that also stars Nicole Kidman.

7. 2.0

Sequel to Enthiran or Robot, this film features Rajinikanth, Amy Jackson and Akshay Kumar. In this sci-fi movie, Dr Vaseegaran (Rajinikanth) and his robot Nila (Amy Jackson) are called to take on the problem of flying mobile phones in Chennai. When discovered that this is the doing of Pakshiraj (Akshay Kumar), Dr Vaseegaran summons his trusted robot Chitti (Rajinikanth) to save the day.

8. Guava Island

Premiered at Coachella music festival this year, Guava Island sees Donald Glover (also the producer) and Rihanna come together for a 55-minute short film. The story follows a day in the life of Glover – a musician – as he plans to put on a music festival. Bonus: It’s not exactly a visual album but you will find Childish Gambino’s latest hits such as This is America and Summertime Magic among others.

9. Gully Boy

2019’s biggest release, Gully Boy follows the life of Murad Ahmed, an aspiring rapper from the streets of Dharavi. It highlights his struggles – personal and financial – that eventually end up becoming his biggest motivators and help him pen down his thoughts in the form of music. The movie is inspired by the lives of Indian street rappers Divine and Naezy. It is directed by Zoya Akhtar, and written by Akhtar and Reema Kagti. It stars Ranveer Singh (Murad Ahmed), Alia Bhatt, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Kalki Koechlin and Vijay Raaz. Expect mind-boggling rap battles between the protagonist and his contemporaries. Also, watch out for MC Sher – Siddhant Chaturvedi’s Sher aaya sher!

10. Lucifer

A political-thriller starring Mohanlal, Lucifer begins with the question of successor after the chief minister of a political party passes away. With his kin either disinterested of undeserving of taking over the reins of the party, the deceased leader's favoured and reliable follower Stephen Nedumpally (played by Mohanlal) emerges as the true heir.
