RON: WGAL NEWS 8’S JEREMY JENKINS JOINS US LIVE FROM DERRY TOWNSHIP. >> POLICE ARE LOOKING FOR A MAN CHARGED WITH KILLING THIS WOMAN AND SETTING FIRE TO HER HOME. WHEN IT HAPPENED, POLICE CALLED THE FIRE SUSPICIOUS. AFTER DETERMINING THAT CHAPLAIN WAS STRANGLED AND THE BEDROOM SET ON FIRE TO COVER UP EVIDENCE. WGAL LEARNED THE SUSPECT WAS LIVING WITH CHAPLAIN AND DATING HER DAUGHTER. Derry Township police are looking for a man they say strangled a woman then set her house on fire to cover it up.Police have named Calvin Lorenzo Purdie Jr., 33, as the suspect in the death of Charlotte Chaplin, 49, and the arson of her home. Police said Purdie was dating Chaplin's daughter and they all lived together in the home.Derry Township police released the following statement:"The Derry Township Police Department is currently looking for Calvin Lorenzo Purdie, Jr., 33 years old, who has been charged in the death of Charlotte Chaplin, 49, and for the arson at 517 West Chocolate Avenue, Hershey on May 23, 2019. Through investigation it was determined that Purdie killed Chaplin by strangulation and then set the fire in the bedroom in which the homicide took place in order to destroy or cover up evidence. While investigators were on the scene of the fire investigation, they noticed that Purdie had visible scratch marks on his face and arms, consistent with having been in a recent violent struggle. As detectives continued their investigation into the arson and homicide of Chaplin, evidence implicated Purdie as the person responsible. When Purdie found this out, he turned off his cell phone and has absconded, eluding investigators and authorities. Derry Township Police have obtained an arrest warrant for Purdie and are actively looking for him with the assistance of local, state and federal agencies. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Calvin Lorezno Purdie, Jr. is asked to contact Derry Township Police at (717) 534-2202 or submit an anonymous tip through our Crimewatch Portal."
