Chris Cornell was laid to rest in Los Angeles on Friday (May 26), just over one week after his tragic death.

The Soundgarden singer was found dead from suicide in his Detroit hotel room last Thursday (May 18), just hours after the band's performance in the city.

His body was cremated in California on Tuesday, ahead of Friday's private funeral at Los Angeles' Hollywood Forever Cemetery, People reports. A public memorial was also taking place later in the day.

Attending the private service were Cornell's family – including wife Vicky and their children Toni and Christopher – as well as many of the late singer's friends from the world of entertainment.

Cornell's music was played over the loudspeakers as guests arrived, while bandmates Tom Morello (of Audioslave), Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron (of Soundgarden), Linkin Park's Chester Bennington and actor Josh Brolin gave eulogies, according to TMZ.

Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins, Nirvana's Krist Novoselic, Courtney Love, Metallica's Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield, Dave Navarro of Jane's Addiction, Bush's Gavin Rossdale, Pharrell, Joe Walsh, Billy Idol, James Franco and Fred Armisen were all pictured at the service.

Jimmy Page and Lisa Marie Presley were also in attendance, according to reports.

Earlier this week, Cornell's wife Vicky released a beautiful open letter to her husband, writing that his "patience, empathy and love always showed through".
