ArenaNet has just unveiled the first expansion for their popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game Guild Wars 2, titled Heart of Thorns.

The news comes from PAX South, where the developer has officially announced the rumored expansion, informing players that their Living Story will carry on and that they will be faced with Tyria’s latest threat, a fierce dragon called Mordremoth.

The expansion consists of several brand new areas, such as the Maguuma Jungle, as well as new non-playable character races, new skill and class combinations, and a deeper and more satisfying player versus player experience.

A new competitive PvP mode, Strongholds, will be making its debut, seeing teams of players fighting over supplies that can be spent to send non-playable characters to attack the enemy base.

The epic World vs. World cross-server player versus player content is also getting some new things, with a new map that has a very distinct theme, where players will have to maintain dominance of key points on the battlefield.

Holding the Earth Keep will raise the ground in order to make defense easier, and holding the Fire Keep will summon magma pools, helping players make their way across the map faster.

A new class and some long-awaited content

Furthermore, players will be able to take up a new profession, called the Revenant, using heavy armor and channeling arcane abilities from the mists.

In addition to this, Heart of Thorns will also introduce a brand new PvE progression system, Masteries, enabling users to develop a series of unique skills by completing various challenges and achievements in the new zones.

The highly anticipated Guild Halls and Guild versus Guild content will also make its debut in the Heart of Thorns expansion, enabling users to compete in epic challenges and acquire new Guild Halls to hang out in.

In case you don’t have the game yet and if you hurry, you might still be able to take advantage of the celebratory offer from ArenaNet, slashing Guild Wars 2’s price by 75 percent for a limited time.
