Wade Gilbert

Wade Gilbert, 71, of Sunny View, North Carolina, and formerly of Inman, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

He was born in Polk County to the late Hoit and Edna Haynes Gilbert. He worked at Broyhill Furniture Company in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, as well as at various trucking companies before his retirement from Shelton Oil and Transport in 2010. 

He was also a Navy veteran. He attended Grassy Knob Baptist Church.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, David G. Gilbert, Luther Gilbert, Roger Gilbert and Joe Dean Gilbert.

Survivors include his wife, Dianne Gilbert, of 50 and a half years, of the home; two sons, Russell Gilbert and Todd Gilbert; a grandson, William Gilbert; and a granddaughter, Savannah Lynn Gilbert.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018, at Grassy Knob Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Warren Elliott. Military rites will be conducted by Polk County Veteran’s Memorial Honor Guard.
