UNITED ARAB EMIRATES (WCMH) – The family of an American elementary school teacher fears for his safety after he was thrown in a United Arab Emirates jail.
Matt Novak is an elementary school teacher in Cairo, Egypt. He has traveled the world while teaching overseas for several years.
Last Saturday, WSHB-TV reports he was traveling through the United Arab Emirates when he was arrested.
“I had a panic attack, I had to get up and leave,” Novak’s mother, Carolyn Novak told WSHB.
Carolyn Novak said someone stole his identity after taking his passport in 2010. They believe his arrest is connected to something the identity thief did.
His family says their biggest fear is that he never comes home.
“I’ve gone from being really scared, we will never see him again, that he will get lost in the prison system over there, to, I mean, that is probably my biggest fear,” said Carolyn Novak. What others are clicking on:
