Smithsburg volleyball, Williamsport boys soccer secure titles

Smithsburg 3, Oakdale 1

SMITHSBURG — In a battle between the defending Class 2A and Class 1A state champions, Katie McCracken had 29 assists and five kills to lead undefeated Smithsburg to a 25-12, 19-25, 25-16, 25-14 victory over Oakdale (11-3, 6-1) on Tuesday as the Leopards claimed their second straight CMC Gambrill title.

Sydney Hammond had nine kills, six digs, five aces and three blocks, Sydney Scott had eight kills, seven digs and three aces, Elizabeth Lund had six kills, Morgan Domenico had four kills and nine digs, and Hannah Lund added four kills for the Leopards (10-0, 7-0), who swept the Bears for last year’s Gambrill crown.

Clear Spring 3, South Hagerstown 2

CLEAR SPRING — Olivia Kirby had 11 kills, seven aces, three blocks and seven digs, and the Blazers edged the Rebels 15-25, 25-19, 25-18, 16-25, 15-12 on Tuesday.

Kylee McKenrick had seven kills, three aces and 15 digs, Vallery Dean had seven kills, three blocks and nine digs, and Jordyn Smith added seven kills, three blocks and seven digs for Clear Spring (5-6). McKenzie Slough had 26 digs and three aces, and Annemarie Kinman added 29 assists.

Sadie Leisinger had 18 kills, Maddy Baker had 23 assists, Makehna Charlton had 28 digs and Cheyenne Price added eight blocks for the Rebels (6-6).

Hancock 3, Hyndman 0

HANCOCK — Sunni Schriver had eight kills and six aces to lead Hancock to a 25-18, 25-14, 25-16 sweep of Hyndman on Tuesday.

Kallee Seal had 11 assists and Cora Keefer added six aces for the Panthers (7-4).

Heritage 3, Grace Academy 0

Mikaylah Hoy had 24 kills, 16 digs, three blocks and two aces to lead Heritage Academy to a 25-18, 25-21, 25-20 MDCC quarterfinal sweep of Grace Academy on Tuesday.

Payton Cline had 34 assists, eight digs and three aces, Chloe Gaylor had 12 kills and 11 digs, Summer Seaward had 21 digs, and Lindsey Horst added four kills, six digs and three aces for the Eagles (10-7, 9-6), who will travel to Cumberland Valley Christian in the semifinals Thursday.

Katie Morgan had 15 kills, Zoe Pifer had nine kills and Taylor Smith had 24 assists for the Knights (10-8).

CVCS 3, Broadfording 1

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Top seed Cumberland Valley Christian defeated Broadfording 20-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-15 in Tuesday’s MDCC quarterfinals.

Emilee Beam had 16 kills and eight digs, and Tahra Kennedy added 11 kills and four aces for the Blazers (17-4). Mackenzie Householder had 29 assists and 11 digs, Hunter Timmons had four kills, three blocks and two aces, Ryleigh Timmons had 16 digs, Kerri Potteiger had seven digs and three aces, and Isabel Beard added three aces.

Haley Kauffman had 14 kills, five blocks and five digs, and Tillie Derr added 12 assists, 12 digs, four kills and four aces for the Lions (4-17). Abbi Cartwright had eight kills and 15 digs, and Alani White added 16 digs and nine assists.

Shalom 3, New Life 0

MARION, Pa. — Emma Lehman had 11 kills, three blocks and two aces to lead Shalom Christian to a 25-14, 25-18, 25-10 sweep of New Life Christian in the MDCC quarterfinals Tuesday.

Katelyn Binkley had 28 assists and four aces, Courtney Stains had nine kills, 19 digs and three aces, and Alyssa Stoneham added nine kills and seven digs for the Flames (13-6).

Southern Fulton 3, McConnellsburg 0

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. — Drew Gordon had 11 assists and eight kills, and Lindsey Hollenshead added 10 kills and seven digs as the Idnains swept the Spartans 25-23, 25-15, 25-23 on Tuesday.

Jessie Covalt had six kills and two blocks, Marita Murray had three kills and three blocks, Maddie Unger had three kills and five digs, and Cheyenne Miller added five assists for Southern Fulton (11-6).

Williamsport 3, Clear Spring 0

WILLIAMSPORT — Natanael Evo had a goal and an assist, and Williamsport scored all its goals in the second half to claim the Tesla Cup as Washington County champion with a shutout of Clear Spring (8-3-1) on Tuesday.

Diego Hilares and Jonathan Kline each had a goal, Hunter Riley and Joe Werder each had an assist and Billy Wood made five saves to record the shutout for the Wildcats (6-5-2), who held an 18-7 shots advantage.

Boonsboro 1, Francis Scott Key 0

BOONSBORO — Tobin Long scored on an assist by Reilly Long, and the Warriors shut out the Eagles on Tuesday.

Ryn Best made five saves for the clean sheet for Boonsboro (6-7-1).

Urbana 3, North Hagerstown 1

The Hawks (12-2, 6-0) completed an undefeated run through the CMC Spires division with a victory over the Hubs at Callas Stadium on Tuesday night, scoring twice in the final four minutes to break a 1-1 tie.

Andreas Sloth scored on an assist from Travis Bamfo to tie the game earlier in the second half for North (11-3, 4-2). Ryan Socks made six saves.

Heritage 4, Grace Academy 2

Tyler Horst and Alex Ahn had a goal and an assist each, and No. 4-seed Heritage Academy rallied from two goals down in the first half to earn an MDCC quarterfinal win over No. 5-seed Grace Academy on Tuesday.

Grant Lescalleet and Addison Eckardt each had a goal and Christian Blazes had an assist for the Eagles (8-7). Jan Lomahan made eight saves.

Heritage will travel to top seed CVCS for a semifinal Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Goretti 6, McConnellsburg 3

James Searcy and Ian Zinaich had two goals and an assist each on Tuesday to lead St. Maria Goretti past McConnellsburg on Senior Night.

Conner Brown had a goal and two assists, George Ofosu-Ameyaw had a goal, Nick Goshorn had an assist, Jeremy Cayhill made seven saves and Ryan Gainor added two saves for the Gaels (9-3-1).

Waynesboro 5, Big Spring 0

WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Amantae Smith had two goals and an assist to lead the Indians to a shutout victory on Tuesday.

Derek Buhrman and Hayden Oldham had a goal and an assist each, Nathan Lochstamphor scored and Connor Jacobs added an assist for Waynesboro.

Highland View 6, Legacy Christian 0

Ian Lopez netted a hat trick and Highland View Academy shut out Legacy Christian on Tuesday.

Dain Ochoa, Kenyi Bolanos and Danny Ramos each scored and Justin Tanguay had an assist for the Tartans.

Faith Christian 1, Shalom Christian 0

MARION, Pa. — Collin Hoffman scored the only goal to lift Faith Christian past Shalom Christian in Tuesday’s MDCC quarterfinal.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Jordan Mason scored two goals to lead St. Maria Goretti in a shutout of Faith Christian on Tuesday.

Melissa Stowe had a goal and an assist, Cali Cammarata scored a goal, Bailey Dockman had two assists and nine saves, and Lauren Lindsey made seven saves for the Gaels (5-2-4).

Mercersburg 5, McConnellsburg 0

MERCERSBURG, Pa. — Tanaka Mukudzavhu had a hat trick for Mercersburg Academy in a shutout of McConnellsburg on Tuesday.

Annie Klaff and Susan Concordia each had a goal and Alex Coenjaerts made five saves for the Blue Storm, who held a 21-5 advantage in shots.

Boonsboro 3, Francis Scott Key 0

FREDERICK, Md. — Micah Stine had two goals to lead Boonsboro past Francis Scott Key on Tuesday.

Savannah Plumadore had a goal, Ali Rhinaman and Leena El-Mohandes had an assist each and Faith Geraci made two saves for the Warriors (9-5).

WAKEFIELD, Va. — Olivia Welty scored five goals to lead Saint James past Wakefield on Tuesday.

Maddie Sappenfield had a goal, Rosy Lin had three assists, Olivia Riser, Reagan Bradley and Eliza Durham each had an assist and Leiny Ruggiero recorded the shutout in goal for the Saints.

Greencastle 4, CD East 0

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Micaela Dougherty had a goal and two assists to lead Greencastle-Antrim in a shutout of Central Dauphin East on Tuesday.

Ellie Strait had a goal and an assist, Alexis Dougherty and Katie Sibbio each had a goal and Alyssa Gaus made five saves to record the clean sheet for the Blue Devils.

Greencastle 4, Waynesboro 0

WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Bella Facchina had a goal and an assist, and Greencastle-Antrim shut out Waynesboro on Monday.

Ellie Strait, Micaela Dougherty and Katie Sibbio scored second-half goals for the Blue Devils. Emma Paci and Kaitlin Measell had an assist each and Alyssa Gaus made one save for the shutout.

Absolute Volleyball offering Saturday program

Absolute Volleyball, a Washington County club organization, is offering a Saturdays-only program at Ruth Monroe Primary School. Registration and tryouts will be held Dec. 1 and Dec. 8, with times to be announced. The program will run from Jan. 5 through May 25. There will be practices, games and possible Saturday tournament participation for girls ages 12-17. We expect to have an instructional court group (no tournaments), as well as 14U, 15U, 16U and 17U teams which will participate in Saturday-only tournaments. Participation in tournaments is optional and by invitation. This program is a good option for girls who want something in place of or in addition to regular club volleyball.
