West Virginia quarterback Will Grier is the latest quarterback prospect in the upcoming NFL Draft to have a top-30 visit and private workout scheduled with the Giants.

The Giants would like to come away from the draft with a long-term replacement for 38-year-old quarterback Eli Manning. Grier joins Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins and Missouri’s Drew Lock among the prospects to visit East Rutherford for a top-30 visit. Additionally, Penn State’s Trace McSorley took part in the Giants’ local pro day and Duke’s Daniel Jones was put through a private workout in Durham, N.C.

Grier, 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, has been projected to be chosen as early as the middle of the first-round or potentially the second round of the upcoming draft after starting 28 games over the past three seasons for the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Last season, Grier completed 67 percent of his passes for 3,864 yards with 37 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Grier flashed the ability to make plays with his legs during his first two seasons, but only attempted 48 rushes last season for three touchdowns.

The Giants own picks No. 6 and 17 in the first-round and pick 37th in the second round. If Grier makes it out of Round 1, he could be an option for the Giants on Day 2, or potentially even as a target with their later first-round selection.

Grier benefited from the West Virginia system, but that same system definitely benefited from his time there. He is a confident leader who would much rather press for the big throw than play it safe underneath. His lack of plus arm talent and release quickness might not match his gunslinger mentality against an NFL secondary. Grier will have to win from the pocket, which means working the middle of the field with better anticipation and getting rid of the ball much sooner. His disappointing Senior Bowl and combine performances have likely hurt his stock.
