One of Michigan's most valued institutions is celebrating a special anniversary this year.

The Michigan State Police are turning 100 years old.

To celebrate, the Gladstone post is holding a very special open house at the IXL Museum in Hermansville.

The site was choosen because Hermansville was one of the first Michigan State Police posts.

Thursday's event runs from 11am to 3pm Eastern time and will feature several vintage patrol vehicles.

The state police mobile command will be on hand along with dive team equipment and many other items dealing with the history of the MSP.

Trooper Dale Hongisto spoke about getting people to come out and share the history of the MSP.

"This our 100 year anniversary so we're working harder than we ever have on our open house and Thursday is going to be a special day with it being a 100 year anniversary. Here we are right at the IXL Museum in Hermansville for our post open house and we're hoping a lot of people come out. It's going to be a good day."

There is no charge for the event that runs from 11am to 3pm Eastern time this Thursday.

Food is available on the grounds and the Michigan State Police invite everyone to come out and celebrate with them.
