A three-vehicle crash Wednesday morning has claimed one life and injured another.

According to Alabama Law Enforcement officials, the crash occurred on Alabama Highway 217
at the 10.4 mile marker, about five miles north of Mobile.

Officials say Bealey Cobb Wheeler, 63, of Wilmer, Alabama, was killed when the 2008 Ford car she was driving southbound on Alabama Highway 217 was hit in the rear by a 2003 Honda car driven southbound by Charles Humbarger, 33, of Wilmer, Alabama, forcing Wheeler’s car into the northbound lane where it collided head-on with a 2015 Chevrolet truck driven northbound by Phillip Lofton, 39, of Satsuma, Alabama.

ALEA officials say Bealey Wheeler died on the scene. She was using a seatbelt, according to the accident report.

Officials say Phillip Lofton was transported to USA Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Charles Humbarger was not injured in the crash.

Charles Humbarger was charged with criminally negligent homicide and taken to Mobile County Jail, officials say.

Nothing further is available as troopers continue to investigate the crash.
