Flash flood watch issued for much of Massachusetts

With potentially severe storms expected Tuesday, flooding is possible.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch early Tuesday morning.

"A line of strong thunderstorms is expected to develop in northwest Massachusetts around noon and then progress slowly southeastward across most of southern New England this afternoon and evening," the National Weather Service wrote.

The watch was issued for the following Massachusetts counties: Essex, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Middlesex and Worcester. It will be in effect from noon through Tuesday evening.

Storms rolling through the state Tuesday will be capable of producing one to two inches of rainfall in less than an hour, the National Weather Service said. "The potential exists for a few areas to receive repeat thunderstorms, in which case one cannot rule out an isolated 4 or 5 inch rainfall total."

The lower Pioneer Valley and Worcester are expected to be impacted the hardest.
