On A Rainy Day, Head to Art Department Studios

Newtown, No Place Like It!!

Rainy, cold days, we’ve all had them. What to do, what to do? The kids get cabin fever, you get snippy….oh, the joys of parenting. Well, you could sit in and wallow all day, OR, you can find an awesome in-door activity that your kids will be sure to enjoy.

That’s what we did yesterday. Following a morning filled with movies, hide-and-seek, and a play-date, on a spur of the moment, my kids and I decided to head on down to Art Department Studios in Newtown (right next to the Duncan Donuts) for a little painting fun. From the moment we entered, we were invited in by Ms. Cindy, who welcomed us with open arms. The studio was warm, neat, well organized, and super clean, with supplies lining the shelves and beautiful client-made artwork littering the walls. Once my girls selected the item they would like to paint (a “love” sign and a unicorn), Ms. Cindy explained the rules and process to them, had them select their paint, and off they painted. What ensued for about an hour were giggles, conversation, and paint on hands as my girls and I strategized the best plan for them to make their creations their own. When it was all over, my girls proudly gave their creations to Ms. Cindy, who will put the finishing touches on via the kiln and call us when it’s ready.

While a bit pricier than I expected, this was a fabulous way to spend a cold and rainy day at a great place in our beloved Newtown!
