A reminder that you're on the Oregon coast and specifically in Yachats is a decades-old whale sculpture by Oregon artist Jim Adler. Located at the south end of town, the sculpture incorporates an earthen body with a metal fluke. "Bazalgette" mimics Old Faithful by spouting off every 60 seconds during daylight hours; not only does he keep the lawn green but also delights anyone in the vicinity. As to how the town mascot's name evolved, you'll have to ask Jim.
