Massachusetts State Police trooper working detail struck woman with cruiser in East Boston, officials say

A Massachusetts State Police trooper working a detail assignment Saturday morning crashed into a woman who was crossing the street in East Boston, officials said.

The trooper was driving through the intersection of Bennington Street and Vienna Street around 5:30 a.m. when he struck the woman, state police said in a statement.

The 58-year-old woman was crossing the road, heading to work, according to state police.

The woman was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment of injuries that are not considered life-threatening, state police said.

The trooper was also taken to the hospital for treatment of emotional distress, the statement said.

State police did not identify the woman or trooper.

At the time of the crash it was rainy and dark, state police said.

No further information was released. The crash is under investigation.
