The former Natwest bank in Egremont's Market Place could be converted into a takeaway.
A planning application has been submitted to Copeland Council requesting a change of use from a bank to a hot food takeaway.
The bank, at 29 Market Place, was shut down in September last year due to changing banking habits.
At the time, a spokeswoman said since 2011, transactions had dropped by 22 per cent in Egremont.
Six other Cumbrian branches - Cockermouth, Keswick, Ambleside, Grange-over-Sands, Ulverston and Wigton - were also closed.
