Lafayette Not On Board With Moraga Building Plans

The Bollinger Valley Project will increase traffic, force emergency vehicle access onto Lafayette, and other issues, Lafayette claims.

LAMORINDA, CA — The City of Lafayette has some unresolved issues with a proposed Moraga housing development, including traffic, visual, emergency vehicle access and storm runoff concerns.

The Lafayette City Council on Monday could authorize a letter to the Town of Moraga that says Lafayette still has concerns about these issues involving the proposed Bollinger Valley Project, a 126-single-family-home
project east of St. Marys Road just south of the Moraga-Lafayette border.

Several years in the planning, the new housing tract would also be just north of the Saint Mary's College campus in Moraga.

Lafayette planners contend:
  • That the northernmost houses would be visible from neighborhoods across the border in Lafayette
  • That the Bollinger Valley Project would have significant traffic impacts on a number of arterial and local streets in Lafayette, including St. Mary's Road. Lafayette planners suggest as many as seven intersections would need traffic signals to accommodate traffic generated by the new subdivision, and that such signals would compromise the semirural character of those Lafayette neighborhoods
  • That the proposed emergency vehicle access road would be largely within Lafayette, something Lafayette officials have not agreed to
  • That the Final Environmental Impact Report for the housing project does not sufficiently evaluate the project's ability to meet current storm water regulations.

Monday's meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. inside the Community Hall in the Lafayette Library & Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd.
