Lone Star Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - In their second meeting with the Corpus Christi IceRays, the Lone Star Brahmas came away with three of four points on the weekend with an overtime loss on Friday and a regulation win on Saturday.

The Brahmas maintain their third-place berth in the standings after this weekend, but trail the second-place Topeka Pilots by just one point with two games in hand.

FRIDAY (3-2 OT LOSS)

Despite a strong performance by goaltender Harrison Feeney, the Brahmas' offense fell just short in an overtime loss.

Forward Michal Stinil made an immediate impact on the scoreboard, finding the back of the net in his first game back from injury to give the Brahmas a 1-0 lead late in the first period.

That lead wouldn't last long, however, as Corpus Christi's Jordan Randall scored the equalizer just eight seconds later.

The Brahmas re-took the lead in the second period thanks to a Vilho Saariluoma power play tally that made it 2-1.

Defenseman Scott Persson's shot on goal trickled through the crease to find Saariluoma, who was all alone in front and easily tapped the puck past the goal line.

Corpus Christi answered back in the third period with another Jordan Randall goal, this one on a strange bounce that ended with the puck in the back of the net.

Fans in attendance received some free hockey, as the two teams finished 60 minutes tied at two goals apiece.

IceRays forward Blake Bennett, who fueled a comeback last week with a third-period hat trick and a shootout goal, once again came up with some clutch heroics, scoring the game-winning goal just over a minute into overtime.

SATURDAY (2-1 WIN)

It was another low-scoring affair on Saturday, but this time the Brahmas came away on top.

After a scoreless first period, Lone Star took a 1-0 lead for a second straight night early in the middle frame.

Andrew DeCarlo and Josh Martin found themselves on 2-on-0 rush, and Martin fed DeCarlo for the game's opening goal.

The Brahmas then took a 2-0 lead with a Thomas Daskas goal - the largest lead either team held in the weekend series.

Daskas' goal was his second in the last three games and stood as the game winner. Corpus also scored in the second period - a Nicholas Seitz power play goal - but it was the only time they found the back of the net.

Neither team scored in the third period, and the Brahmas took the 2-1 victory.

Goaltender Seth Eisele was very strong for the Brahmas, stopping 30 of 31 shots and earning the win.

UP NEXT The Brahmas have a busy week coming up. Shreveport will come to town on Wednesday, November 21st. There will be a poster giveaway and a postgame skate with the players following the game.

The Corpus Christi IceRays will make their first trip to Brahmaland on November 23rd and 24th.

Friday, November 23rd is the Brahmas' annual Teddy Bear Toss game! Take advantage of Black Friday and buy some new stuffed animals to throw onto the ice after the first Brahmas goal is scored.

In addition, the Brahmas will be auctioning off their Military Recognition Specialty Jerseys following the game on Saturday, November 24th.
