Pittsfield man killed head-on crash on Route 9 in Dalton

DALTON -- A 51-year-old Pittsfield man died Tuesday night after the car he was driving was involved in a head-on crash with a truck on Route 9 in Dalton, the Berkshire Eagle reported.

Dalton police said James Kerr had to be extricated from the wreckage of his car after the collision near the intersection of North Road (Route 9) and Cleveland Road.

Investigators said Kerr was driving west on Route 9 about 6:20 p.m. when he crossed the center line into the eastbound lane and crashed into a Dodge truck operated by Peter Gagliardi, 50, of Middlefield.

He was transported to Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, where he was later pronounced dead.

Gagliardi was treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital. A passenger in his truck was not injured.

The incident remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and detectives attached to the Berkshire district attorney's office.
