According to a portal, Chitra was already married to Debo Prasad Dutta when the two fell in love. Mother to a lovely daughter, Chitra had already separated from her former husband back then. However, when Jagjit proposed marriage to his ladylove, she didn't agree at first and then the singer visited her former husband and told him that he wanted to marry his wife. After which the two tied the knot in 1969.
