Drunk Driver Crashes Into Tree: Police

He failed to stop for a stop sign, ran through an intersection and into a tree, police say.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — An Amagansett man was arrested after he drove drunk and crashed into a tree, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Johnathan A. Hansen, 20, was arrested on Feb. 5 at 11:48 p.m. at the intersection of Hog Creek Road and Kings Point Road in East Hampton and charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense, a misdemeanor.

He was driving a 2004 Ford Ranger when he failed to stop for a stop sign, drove through the intersection and then off the roadway and into the tree, police said.

Upon investigation, Hansen was found to have the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, bloodshot, glassy eyes, and slurred speech, police said. He could not perform any field sobriety tests due to injuries sustained in the crash, police said.
