Lewis Hamilton suffers engine trouble in Silverstone practice

Lewis Hamilton had a mixed outing in second practice for the British Grand Prix, topping the timesheets before suffering engine failure.

Mercedes showed ominous pace as teams undertook qualifying simulation, Hamilton just edging team-mate Nico Rosberg by two tenths of a second.

However, he was unable to gather information in race simulation later in the session, grinding to a halt after just two corners after exiting the pits due to a reported oil-pressure issue.

The retirement could give Rosberg an advantage come race day as the Mercedes pair continue to fight it out at the top of the drivers' standings.

Fernando Alonso was the best of the rest for Ferrari as the Mercedes-powered sides struggled to make an impact.

Williams suffered a disastrous first session as Susie Wolff was forced to retire and Felipe Massa crashed out.

The second Williams run was not much better, Massa only managed to run in half of the session after his car was repaired while Valtteri Bottas' efforts were brought to an explosive end after his engine cover was blown apart.

Red Bull duo Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel came in fourth and fifth-fastest respectively, and also posted consistent times in the race simulation as they chase a fourth Silverstone win in six seasons.
