Pianists Luiz and Bridget de Moura Castro In All-Debussy Performance at Avon Library

Avon, CT – February 23, 2018 – Late March marks the centennial of the death of French composer and musical legend, Claude Debussy. bTo commemorate that event world-renowned concert pianist and master teacher Luiz de Moura Castro will present a program of some of the composer’s most beloved piano works on Sunday, March 18. Made possible by the Friends of the Avon Library, this return engagement will be made all the more special by an appearance by Bridget de Moura Castro, herself a celebrated keyboard artist, who will join her husband in a piano four-hands performance of Debussy’s Petite Suite.

The couple came to Avon more than 30 years ago when Luiz accepted a faculty position at the Hartt School of the University of Hartford where he served as chairman of the piano department for 15 years. He continues to be a much-in demand teacher at Hartt. In addition, he is currently an associate professor at the Juan Pedro Carrera Music School in Barcelona and a teacher at the Pro Arte Seminaros de Musica in Rio de Janeiro in his native Brazil.

He has appeared as soloist with symphony orchestras throughout Europe and the United States: the Orchestre de Chambre Lausanne, Lisbon Radio Orchestra, Orchestra Filharmonichi di Turino, the Slovak Philharmonic, the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra, Yaroslavl Symphony, and the London, Dallas, Saint Louis, Fort Worth, Hartford, and Syracuse symphonies. He has also performed with all the major orchestras in Brazil.

In addition to being an internationally acclaimed performer, he has been proclaimed one of “The Most Wanted Piano Teachers in the U.S.A.” He is the President of the Frédéric Chopin Society of Connecticut and has been on the board of the American Liszt Society for over a decade.

Bridget de Moura Castro holds degrees from Reading and London Universities, England, the Liszt Academy, Budapest and Texas Christian University where she studied with renowned Hungarian pianist Lili Kraus. In addition to being a gifted pianist, she is a highly regarded organist and clarinetist who has taught and performed in Europe, Brazil, and the United States.

All are welcome to this special program in the Community Room of the Avon Free Public Library, 281 Country Club Road, Avon. Free tickets will be available at 2:15 P.M. on the day of the performance with seating starting at 2:30 P.M. The one-hour program begins at 3:00 P.M. Light refreshments prepared by The Friends of the Library will be served following the afternoon’s performance.
