Where Your Dollars Go When You Donate to Relay for Life of Yorktown!

It's a great question & we're answering the hot question: what your donations do!

You may have heard that 2015 is Relay for Life of Yorktown’s 10th anniversary! It’s a HUGE deal, especially when it’s Relay for Life’s 30th anniversary this year! Did you know that Yorktown’s Relay has raised $1.84 million the past 9 years? We’re aiming to surpass the $2 million mark at our 2015 Relay for Life on June 12 at the Jack Memorial Field in Yorktown.

Now, you might be asking yourself; “well, where has all this money gone over the years?” The answer may surprise you!

  • Research: The American Cancer Society (ACS) is the top funding provider (excluding the government) for crucial cancer research. Research helps find causes & cures for cancer! Since 1946, the ACS has invested more than $4 BILLION in cancer research!
  • Hope Lodge: Hope Lodges provide patients who must travel away for treatment with a free place to for them and their cave givers to stay! This helps patients focus on getting better instead of adding an additional worry for lodging.
  • Road to Recovery: This program provides transportation for patients who are unable to get rides to treatment. Specially trained volunteer drivers are carefully placed with patients to help them get back and forth to life saving treatments. In 2013, the ACS provided cancer patients with over 380,000 rides to & from treatment so they wouldn’t have to worry about transportation.
  • Look Good Feel Better: A popular program that teaches women battling cancer beauty techniques to help them approve their appearance & self image during treatment. They’ll learn make up techniques, nail care, skin care and learn more about hair loss related options!
  • Reach to Recovery: This program matches trained breast cancer survivors with people who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Volunteers offer support, understanding and hope!
  • Cancer Information Helpline: This helpline is for cancer patients & their caregivers. In 2013, the helpline fulfilled 1 million requests!
