Kenneth Branagh / Thor

Paramount hasn't put out an official "start of production" press release yet, but Production Weekly just ran an update confirming that Marvel's Thor movie, being directed by Kenneth Branagh (pictured above), will start shooting in Los Angeles in January. The shoot will then move to Santa Fe, New Mexico from March until late April. Thor stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, Samuel L. Jackson and Stellan Skarsgard. It's based on the comic book superhero created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, and Jack Kirby in 1962, and was inspired by the Norse god of thunder.

This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe - from present day Earth to the mythical realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth), a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth. Paramount has set a May 20th, 2011 summer release for Thor. You can expect to hear plenty more about this as they prepare to start shooting. Excited?

I cannot say just how excited I am for this movie. I think the upcoming "Prince of Persia" is going to be a very similar analogy for what "Thor" will end up being in scope and action. Thor's not your typical super-hero tale, and it's probably going to blow us all away.

@Sabes Yeah, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. He's in all of the new Marvel movies, since this is all just gearing up to the Avengers movie

Apparently Zachary Levi was gonna be in the film but had to drop out due to commitments on Chuck - shame cos I like him a lot in that show - Chuck almost feels like a Marvel character!!

Man, I just hope they keep Thor's dialogue spiced with that olde Asgardian accent. I need to hear him yell out "I say thee NAY!" just prior to socking Loki with Mjolnir somewhere in that movie.

We'll see what happens, the cast looks amazing I'm just not convinced about Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Hope the script is good

Kenneth Branagh wouldn't have anything do with it unless the script was top-notch. Gonna be cool.

"I want to see a bulked up Nathan Fillion as Cap!…..or maybe even a bulked up Chris Pine" I can totally see Chris Pine as Cap though what with him doing Star Trek 2 and maybe the new Jack Ryan I wonder if it would be too much for him? If he did it it mean Kirk as Capans Kirk's dad as Thor!

Cap should be played by Matt Damon (of Bourne movies).

Everyone seems to be really excited over the selection of Kenneth Branagh at the helm. Hate to be a kill joy but I for one am not convinced that his kind of direction will suit a comic book hero. (I was less than impressed with his interpretation Frankenstein) I do however admire and love his Shakespearean work as Actor/film maker. Marvel may have got it wrong here. (They got it wrong with the Hulk Movies- Yeah! both of them. Wrong directors). I must say that the premise of the film is execllent.
