BERTRAM, Texas (KXAN) — The Bertram City Council fired police chief James Jay “JJ” Wilson Tuesday night after he was suspended without pay in October for being arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. According to Bertram City Attorney Michael Guevara, the council voted to begin the process of searching for a new police chief.

The council had suspended Wilson on Oct. 25 following his Oct. 24 arrest on the DWI charge. That was the second arrest for the police chief in a month.

Wilson was indicted on Oct. 2 on three charges of official oppression, a charge of misuse of official information and a charge of aggravated perjury. The charges stemmed, in part, from a dispute over bales of hay.
